A United Airlines flight returned to Las Vegas International Airport on Saturday night after a passenger made a reported terroristic threat.

The plane was headed for Newark, New Jersey, when Las Vegas police were notified of the disturbance shortly after departure. Officers detained a 25-year-old male passenger during the stopover. He faces charges for making a threat or providing false information regarding an act of terrorism. Police have not disclosed the specific words or actions that triggered the alert. The Federal Aviation Administration described the event as a passenger disturbance.

Flightradar24 data shows the aircraft was in the air for under an hour before landing back in Las Vegas. United Airlines confirmed the flight, which carried 150 passengers, returned safely to handle a potential security concern. The airline delayed the flight overnight and resumed the trip to Newark on Sunday morning. An attorney representing the detained man did not respond to initial requests for comment. His first court appearance is set for Tuesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed it will investigate the incident. The agency noted in an email that it has recorded more than 1,400 unruly passenger incidents in 2026 so far.
